Do you suffer from chronic or reoccurring Irritable Bowel Syndrome? If so you may be eligible to take part in an all new, innovative national IBS research protocol.
‘A randomised controlled trial to validate the use of caecal pH measurement as a biomarker in irritable bowel syndrome’
Led by The Functional Gut Clinic, if you are selected you will be placed under expert consultation with one of the counties leading Gastroenterologists.
Dr Anthony Hobson PhD, Consultant Clinical Scientist & Dr Adam Farmer PhD MRCP honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist are conducting a clinical study to demonstrate that caecal pH is a effective test to establish the degree of caecal fermentation in IBS.
Normalisation of the caecal pH environment will lead to symptomatic improvements. The two options are following a low FODMAP diet or being prescribed linaclotide.
At the end of the study every participant will receive a fully documented and comprehensive evaluation of our findings and details of how they relate to your own condition. These results along with our own recommendations can be shared with your own clinical practitioner or GP.
What we need from you
At this stage we are currently looking to gain patient and professional feedback on our proposed study before formal submission to the Ethics Committee.
We are particularly interested in your thoughts on the study design and how in your view this maybe improved, if at all.
Expressing an opinion on the proposed study does not in any way represent a commitment for you to take part.
Any feedback or thoughts you may have will be extremely beneficial; your support will constructively contribute towards potential ground breaking developments in future IBS treatment & care.
